As we are all aware, it has been a very challenging start to the school year and will continue to be a challenging year for many of our families and faculty who experienced flooding.
The PTO would like to continue to provide assistance to our students and support our faculty wherever possible. Many people have asked how they can help so we have created a list of possible PTO donations:
1. Hand Sanitizer and Tissues for the Nurse's Station. The nurses generously provided these supplies to the FHS shelter during the storm, and we would like to help them replenish them before the cold and flu season begins. They can use individual hand sanitizer bottles and boxes of tissues. They are the central location for these items and distribute them to the teacher classrooms as requested throughout the year. These donations can be dropped off at the front reception desk labeled: Donation to Nurse's Health Clinic
2. Gift cards. Gift cards are always appreciated in any form and amount. We use gift cards for several purposes as follows:
A. Mustang Cares/Student Success: Gift cards to grocery stores, gas cards, Walmart, Target, visa gift cards, etc. for support of any student needs. We like to have a couple gift cards on hand in case a Counselor contacts us about a student need during the school year. We will also make a special request before Christmas for gift cards to fill stockings for families who can use some extra help around the holidays. These donations can be dropped off at the front reception desk labeled: PTO/Mustang Cares/Student Success Donation
B. Faculty Appreciation: $10 - $25 gift cards for food, coffee, movies, shopping, etc. (or money to purchase these items) for drawings and gift baskets given out at faculty meetings and luncheons. These donations can be dropped off at the front reception desk labeled: PTO/Faculty Appreciation Donation
C. Support of Harvey-impacted families and faculty: There are multiple ways to provide financial assistance to those affected by the storm. The FISD Education Foundation is accepting donations for all district employees impacted by the storm. There is a link on the FISD website. You may also make gifts to FHS faculty or families by dropping off gift cards or monetary donations to the front reception desk labeled: PTO/Harvey Relief Donation.
At this time, we have a good safety stock of school supplies, so thank you very much to everyone who donated those items. We have been able to give the Counselor's office over 20 backpacks stocked with necessary supplies and we have more supplies in our PTO closet to assemble additional backpacks as needed. We will let you know when we need more school supplies.
Thank you all very much for your continued support of FHS PTO and the faculty and families at Friendswood High School. Please contact me if you have any questions.
